Markem-Imaje partners with Chorley Youth Zone in UK
At Markem-Imaje we conduct business all over the globe with operations spanning sales, manufacturing and service to marketing, HR and procurement. It means that our organization of over 3,000 employees makes connections with communities in almost every region of the world.
It’s a privileged position to be in and with that comes the responsibility to make a meaningful contribution to the societies who are our neighbors and friends, as well as current and future employees. In my role as Zone Director, Northern Europe, based in Manchester in the UK, I recently had the opportunity to connect with the community charity Inspire Chorley Youth Zone, based just a few miles from MI’s UK base. Chorley is a town with heart and ambition, but like many others, has some areas of high deprivation.
The Chorley Youth Zone is part of a thriving network of 14 independent local charities committed to exceptional, life changing youth work that has a genuine long-term impact on the lives of young people.
And it’s a huge success! Over 1,000 children visit the Chorley Youth Zone each week to access the incredible facilities and support. Dozens of purpose-built activity rooms allow young people to use the state-of-the-art equipment to express themselves, while being supported by a dedicated team of youth workers. Social and emotional development is at the heart of everything that they do, as well as providing for many urgent practical needs.
Chorley Youth Zone is responding to this urgency by establishing a professional counselling service. At MI we are honored to be able to partner with the team to fund this critical service. Our goal for the year ahead is to provide over 200 hours of time with a qualified counsellor in a dedicated space within the Youth Zone’s friendly and familiar environment—ensuring that all their children who need it have someone to talk to.
This connection with our community is rewarding for all of us, but none more so than the young people who are supported by the impressive work of Chorley Youth Zone.

Children’s Mental Health Week
In the UK, this week is Children’s Mental Health Week bringing into sharp focus the critical need for welcoming community-led services like Chorley Youth Zone. The unavoidably sad fact is that the pandemic has led to an exponential increase in the need for mental health support for young people. Waiting time to access mental health services can be up to two years. For a young person in crisis that is two years too long.Chorley Youth Zone is responding to this urgency by establishing a professional counselling service. At MI we are honored to be able to partner with the team to fund this critical service.
